The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not receive any salary from their Archewell Foundation

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Archewell Foundation more than doubled its fundraising in 2023, securing £4.1 million in grants compared to £1.5 million the previous year, a new report has shown.

The charitable organisation, now in its third year of operation, allocated £1 million to various charitable causes during the period from January to December 2023.

The substantial growth reflects increased backing for the foundation's initiatives, including The Parents Network and other community-based programmes.

The foundation's total revenue reached £4.5 million for the year, including investment income, marking a significant milestone since its establishment in 2020 following the Sussexes' departure from their roles as senior working royals.

These expanded resources will support ongoing projects and enable the foundation to broaden its charitable work.

A significant portion of the foundation's funding came from a single £3.9 million donation from an individual donor.

An additional £260,000 was contributed by five separate individual donors.

Tax filings reveal that both Harry and Meghan maintain a one-hour-per-week involvement in Archewell's operations, which is standard practice for directors of U.S. tax-exempt organisations.

Overall salary costs amounted to around £790,000 with total expenses exceeding £800,000, covering legal fees, events and travel.

Notable expenditure included last year's World Mental Health Day event in New York City.

The foundation's £1 million in charitable grants supported various causes, including mental health initiatives, online safety and women's empowerment.

A significant grant of £200,000 was allocated to Ashley Biden's Women's Wellness (Spa)ce, a trauma-informed wellness centre in north Philadelphia.

The increased expenses reflect the expansion of key programmes, including The Welcome Project, which provides community support for refugees.
