The King and Queen just completed a four-day tour of Kenya

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's biographer has unleashed a scathing attack on the "out of touch" King for a "ridiculous" reason.

Omid Scobie, whose next royal book Endgame will be released at the end of November, took to X criticise part of King Charles's State Visit to Kenya.

Scobie accused the King and Queen of being "ridiculous and out of touch" during one of their engagements this week.

On Wednesday, Charles and Camilla visited Nairobi National Park.

Scobie noticed that a red carpet was laid on the soil awaiting their arrival.

He wrote on X: "Even if this was a choice made by the hosts (and it probably was), the optics of the King and Queen walking on a red carpet to avoid soil at Nairobi National Park are pretty ridiculous and out of touch.

"A clued-up Palace aide could have easily asked for it to be removed.

"I’ve been on many royal visits all over the world and seen aides run around requesting last-minute tweaks or changes before royals arrive at engagements (including red carpets that have been deemed unnecessary) so there is precedent for this."

Nairobi News reported that the red carpet was rolled out to ensure the monarchs "do not endure dusty or muddy shoes in this ongoing rainy season".

They also pointed out that red carpets for high-profile visits are a sign of respect and power.

King Charles was dressed smartly in a light-coloured suit for the visit and smart trousers.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla was in a Fiona Clare Liberty Cotton Elephant and Peacock Print Dress.

The Queen carried a Heidi Klein Swim Savannah Bay Mini Raffia Tote Bag in Beige.

Camilla wore a beige coat and appropriate brown hiking boots.

Many fans were quick to respond to Scobie's remarks, with many agreeing that the move appeared outdated.

But others defended the King and Queen and said they were simply being polite to their hosts.
