The Duchess of Sussex has had an eventful year

Meghan Markle has been named "woman of the year" by a British singer due to her feud with the media.

Lily Allen, who has had her own struggles with the British media, explained how she feels about the Duchess of Sussex at an awards ceremony.

The Smile singer was at a Glamour magazine awards ceremony last week and was asked about her "woman of the year".

Allen replied: "Who's my woman of the year? Umm, Meghan Markle.

"She just is one big middle finger to the British press in particular."

Allen was awarded the GLAMOUR Women of the Year Award for Theatre Actor at One Marylebone on October 17.

During the last 12 months, the Duchess of Sussex has received her own award for championing women's rights.

In May, Meghan was presented with an award by feminist Gloria Steinem at the Ms. Foundation for Women’s annual gala.

During her acceptance speech, the duchess encouraged women to find inspiration to fight for equity.

The 42-year-old said: “It’s never too late to start.

“You can be the visionary of your own life... There is still so much work to be done.”

This awards show was attended by Prince Harry and Meghan's mother Doria Ragland.

After the awards show, the Sussexes criticised the New York paparazzi for what their press secretary described as a "near catastrophic" two-hour car chase.

Ashley Hansen said: "I have never experienced their vulnerability as much as I did last night. They were incredibly scared and shaken up."

Despite this, the taxi driver who drove Harry and Meghan denied the car chase was "dangerous".

Sukhcharn Singh commented: "I don't think I would call it a chase. I never felt like I was in danger. It wasn't like a car chase in a movie. [Harry and Meghan] were quiet and seemed scared but it's New York - it's safe."
