The Duchess of Sussex will not attend King Charles's Coronation on May 6

Meghan Markle avoided a major event as she would not have been the "big player in the room" according to a PR expert.

The Duchess of Sussex did not attend the Met Gala on May 1 2023 despite having been widely expected to be there.

The luxurious and exclusive fashion event is packed with A-listers every year.

Kieran Elsby, director of Media Global PR, stated that Meghan Markle's attendance at the event would not have made headlines due to the huge amount of competition.

Elsby said: "I’m sure if she would have attended she would not have made many headlines, with so much competition.

"It comes back to celebrities wanting all eyes on [them] and she would not have been anywhere near the big player in the room.

"So best to duck, dive and avoid, until she can find an event all about her."

He added during his interview with the Mirror: "[She] maybe dodged the event to stop an ego bashing."

It comes as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were warned "people cannot stand them" following nightmare polling for the Sussexes.

American commentator Megyn Kelly reacted to new polling by Lord Ashcroft for the Daily Mail that showed Meghan and Harry remain among the most unpopular royals.

Just 22 per cent of people said they liked Prince Harry whilst 18 per cent liked the Duchess of Sussex.

Kelly told GB News: "Very clearly in the UK, the people cannot stand them, especially her.

"I mean, it's really dreadful. Their approval ratings, at least here in the United States, were holding on as of December, prior to their publicity tour.

"Like they were hanging in there in the United States, not the UK.

"And what do they do? They went on their huge media tour and they did their Netflix thing and they did Spare.

"And then what? They went off a cliff.

"Even here in the United States, everybody said we don't want anything to do with them."
