The Duchess of Sussex released a new lifestyle series on Netflix titled 'With Love, Meghan' on Tuesday

Meghan Markle latest Netflix project has been branded a "superficial gush-fest" in a scathing takedown by royal broadcaster Sarah-Louise Robertson.

The Duchess of Sussex faced swathes of criticism on Tuesday following the release of With Love, Meghan - a new lifestyle series on the streaming platform offering recipes, tips and tricks.

However, many hit out at the slick, glossy production - claiming the royal's recipes and ideas were unrealistic and unoriginal.

Discussing the series on GB News, royal commentator Sarah-Louise Robertson claimed that Meghan appeared "hollow" and "vacuous" throughout the show.

Robertson told host Patrick Christys: "This was just a superficial gush-fest that delivered nothing other than Meghan saying 'look at me and my fabulous lifestyle'.

"It was hollow, it was vacuous - I sat there watching it, waiting for some sort of witty riposte from her, or some enlightening comment that was going to endear her to me, and she literally gave nothing."

Offering some praise of the Netflix production, Robertson noted that the appearance of the show - filmed at a rented California farmhouse - was "very beautiful" and "slickly packaged".

She added: "Did it look pretty? Yes, of course. Beautiful garden, beautiful kitchen - which wasn't hers, by the way, another fake element to it. But what do we find out about Meghan? Nothing."

When asked by Patrick if she believes the Duchess is "lacking in personality", Robertson agreed, claiming: "Yes, that's it. There was just nothing there. You want a kind of a Princess Margaret, you wanted to hear some sort of waspish comment.

"It's like, come on, give us something, please, and there was just nothing."

Highlighting one particular moment in the show, where Meghan corrected friend Mindy Kaling and told her not to use her maiden name after calling her "Meghan Markle", Robertson suggested that Meghan is now "trying to get back her sense of royalty" after "running away from it".

Robertson explained: "It was the Meghan show, obviously, her name's in the title, but you learnt really nothing about her apart from now she wants to be known as Sussex.

"She ran away from the Royal Family before, now it's almost just trying to get back that that sense of royalty, the fact she corrected her friend Mindy Kaling on the show."

Discussing Prince Harry's cameo appearance in the series, Robertson praised the Duke's "charisma", and claimed that the series "needed more of him".

Robertson concluded: "Harry really did bring that little bit of star quality at the end. Whatever you say about him, he does naturally have charisma in spades. And when he walked in at the end, somehow it did transform.

"And it would have been lovely to have seen Harry more, but obviously he doesn't want to be part of it. But here's Meghan showing off this vacuous Hollywood lifestyle, she's trying to be like Gwyneth Paltrow and Martha Stewart type character.

"And I just wonder if he just looked at this and thought, gosh - I think Harry looked a little bit forlorn. Something's going on, and I think Harry's checked out."
