The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's contract with Netflix expires this year

Meghan Markle's Netflix deal looks to be hanging in the balance after her latest project has failed to break into the streaming giant's top 5 most watched TV programmes.

The Duchess of Sussex's Netflix show 'With Love, Meghan' has been met with dismal ratings from viewers.

The lifestyle series has received a mere 11 per cent rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes from more than 250 ratings.

On IMDb, the show fares little better with a 2.6 out of 10 from over 1,000 reviews.

The delayed series currently sits at number six on Netflix's top 10 chart despite facing little competition from major releases on the platform this week.

It trails behind Kate Hudson's basketball comedy series Running Point and WWE programming.

Hollywood bible magazine Variety delivered a particularly scathing review of the Duchess of Sussex's series.

The publication described it as "a Montecito ego trip not worth taking" in a no-holds-barred critique.

Critics have been unsparing in their assessment of the lifestyle show since its premiere.

Variety's review continued: "The show plays out like a forced march, one in which Meghan's guests must, as the price of getting to share an afternoon in a made-for-TV kitchen with her, praise her first."

The magazine added: "With Love, Meghan is made with a great deal of love in the sense that the greatest love of all is the one that a person has for herself."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's deal with the streaming giant is set to expire this year with a decision set to be made on whether to renegotiate terms with the couple.

After a hugely successful debut series, the Sussexes' other projects have failed to get close to their record-breaking self-titled documentary 'Harry & Meghan' which was released in December 2022.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told GB News: "Netflix is obviously hoping there will be a positive response to the eight-part series."

He added: "They have been kicked out by Spotify. There are no more books (scheduled to be released). Everything rests for the Sussexes on Netflix."

"Polo was not much of a hit and was never going to be. The Invictus series was worthy enough, but people did not want to watch it."
