Meghan Markle is “mirroring" the Royal Family ahead of the launch of her Netflix series and lifestyle brand, a PR expert has exclusively told GB News.
The 43-year-old former working royal uploaded her first post to the Instagram account on January 1, after vowing to never return to any social media platform.

PR and Social media expert Caitlin Jardine at Ellis Digital explained that the Duchess of Sussex is using modern social media strategies to help create a successful brand.

GettyShe told GB News: “Meghan Markle’s decision to rejoin Instagram and use it as a promotional tool for her upcoming Netflix series and lifestyle brand is a savvy move that aligns with a lot of other modern PR strategies."
“Meghan’s strategy mirrors the tactics used by the Royal Family, who have increasingly turned to social media to communicate directly with the public.
“With her newly Californian lifestyle and Royal Family history, Meghan is positioning herself as both relatable and aspirational, which are both key ingredients when creating a successful lifestyle brand.”
The U-turn marked her first return to social media since stepping away from royal duties in 2020.
As well as personal uploads, including a heartbreaking tribute to her late dog and a romantic message to Prince Harry on Valentine’s Day, Meghan has used the platforms to promote her upcoming projects.
The Duchess of Sussex will launch her new Netflix series "With Love, Meghan" on March 4, after the eight-part show was delayed after devastating wildfires hit the California area.
Meghan posted the trailer for the cookery series on January 2, just a day after publicly launching the profile.
The mother of two also used the platform to rebrand her lifestyle brand, set to launch alongside her Netflix show, changing the name from ‘American Riviera Orchard’ to ‘As Ever’.

The mother-of-two also uploaded a teaser image of a breakfast table with Jam’s, fruits and croissants spread across, hinting at what brand will sell.
The caption read: “You're warmly invited: As ever, coming Spring 2025.”
Speaking on the new promotional images posted to Meghan’s account, Jardine said: “Similar to the way celebrities, influencers and brands use social media to control their image and promote their work, they all use Instagram as a tool to generate buzz ahead of series or product launches.”
