Civic bosses in Porreres, Mallorca, have launched a legal probe into the 'As Ever' brand logo

A Spanish town is considering legal action against the Duchess of Sussex after claiming her new luxury brand logo bears a striking resemblance to its historic coat of arms.

Civic bosses in Porreres, Mallorca, have launched a legal probe into Meghan Markle's "As Ever" brand logo, which features a palm tree with two birds on either side.

The town's officials claim the design appears to copy their traditional emblem, which has been part of their municipal identity since the 13th century.

The dispute comes as the latest setback for Meghan's rebranded lifestyle venture, which was previously known as American Riviera Orchard.

The town's coat of arms displays a palm tree in orange and green against a white background, with black birds positioned on either side.

In contrast, Meghan's "As Ever" logo uses a more minimalist approach, featuring the same basic design elements but rendered in dark grey and white.

The similarity between the two designs has sparked concern among local officials, who are now investigating whether the Duchess's brand has appropriated their historic symbol.

The logo appears on Meghan's newly launched website, which features a cover photo of her holding hands with her daughter Lilibet in their Montecito garden.

Porreres mayor Xisca Mora expressed uncertainty about how the similarity arose, telling local outlet Arabalears: "I don't know if they visited any agro-tourism and saw the shield, because the photo on their website is taken in Mallorca."

The mayor appeared to find a silver lining in the situation, adding: "We feel international. It's surreal... at least, all over the world many people will become aware that in Mallorca there is an inland town that has this coat of arms."

GB News has contacted Meghan's representatives for comment.

Porreres, located 22 miles east of Mallorca's capital Palma, is home to just over 5,000 residents.

The picturesque Mediterranean community, founded in the 13th century, sits in the heart of the Balearic Island's rural region.

Known for its cobbled streets and historic buildings, Porreres has traditionally been one of the island's key agricultural centres, producing wines and fruits.

In recent years, the town has emerged as a modest tourist destination for visitors exploring the island's interior.

The dispute emerges just as Meghan launches her rebranded venture, with her Netflix show "With Love, Meghan" set to debut in two weeks.

The Duchess announced the name change from American Riviera Orchard to "As Ever" in an Instagram video filmed in her Montecito garden.

In the video, Meghan explained her decision to abandon the American Riviera name: "It limited me to things that were just manufactured and grown in this area."

The rebrand comes after earlier trademark difficulties with American Riviera Orchard, which faced challenges from rival brand Harry & David over naming rights.
