Michael Cole said 'for a woman over 40 in Hollywood, there's not much of a future'

Former Royal Correspondent Michael Cole has shared his thoughts on Meghan Markle's latest outing in Hollywood, as she made an appearance at an LA gala.

The Duchess of Sussex attended the Variety Gala in Los Angeles on Thursday night, as she posed for pictures in a one shoulder beige gown.

Speaking to Variety at the event, Meghan revealed she and husband Prince Harry have "exciting" projects in the pipeline that she "can't talk about yet".

The Duchess revealed: "I’m just really proud of what we’re creating. My husband is loving it too which is really fun."

Markle said of the couple's upcoming TV and film projects: "“I think the more we support each other it just amplifies the work, amplifies our community and I’m just thrilled to be back in it and to be able to sit in this room and be in such good company tonight.

"I want to make things that make people feel... I was going say 'good,' but it's more than that, things that make people feel something, right? And feel a sense of community."

Reacting to Meghan Markle's latest revelations, Michael Cole told GB News she appeared "thrilled" to be back in the limelight.

Cole told Emily Carver: "Her loveliness goes on and on, doesn't it? I mean, she said she was thrilled to be back in Hollywood. Did she ever really leave?"

Cole continued: "She was here very briefly as a royal Duchess and couldn't wait to get via Canada back to Hollywood. And of course, this event was put on by the Hollywood bible Variety, the newspaper of show business.

"The smile looked a little bit forced. And of course she wasn't coming forward with what these great products are going to be.

"But she did mention, as you heard, a sense of community. Well, I don't know whether that extends to a sense of duty and loyalty and patriotism and family, but that's how she described it."

Discussing the career prospects for Meghan Markle in Hollywood, Cole argued that there "isn't much of a future" for someone of Meghan's age.

Cole said: "For a woman over 40 in Hollywood, there's not much of a future usually on the screen."

Emily then interrupted Cole, jibing: "Gosh, harsh Michael!"

Cole then said in defence of Meghan: "You have to be Dame Judi Dench to get on the screen if you're over 40. Or Dame Helen Mirren. I think it's appalling, but that is the truth of the matter usually in Hollywood.

"So whether she has a future, but as you say, she was a bit of coy about the success or the renewed success, the renaissance of Suits - could it be anything to do with the fact that she married a royal Prince?"
