Meghan Markle's favourite brand has been "eyed up by Princess Kate", according to a style expert, as a key designer has made a major U-turn.

When the Duchess of Sussex walked down the aisle to marry Prince Harry in 2018, she stunned in a beautiful Givenchy wedding dress.

In contrast, the Princess of Wales opted for British brand Alexander McQueen back in 2011 when she tied the knot with Prince William.

The designer, Sarah Burton, recently made a drastic U-turn in her career when she announced she was leaving the British label.

In a statement, Italian label Givenchy said: "Givenchy announces the appointment of Sarah Burton as Creative Director, with immediate effect.

"Sarah will be responsible for the creative direction of all of the Maison’s Women's and Men's collections.

"Her first collection will be presented in March 2025."

Fashion expert Ali from Inspired Styling spoke exclusively to GB News, to explain whether Kate will now begin wearing more Givenchy designs as she returns to public life.

She said: "One fly in the ointment for British fashion is the recent move of Kate's wedding dress designer, Sarah Burton, to French luxury fashion house Givenchy.

"It's clear that the princess trusts Sarah Burton deeply, and the mutual loyalty means Kate will continue to show support by wearing Givenchy for the season ahead."

Ali also commented on Kate's return to public life earlier this week.

She added: "The Princess of Wales was pictured this week in a sleek designer trouser suit in the colour of the season, rich burgundy.

"Unlike the comfortable casual wear we have seen in Kate's recent candid pre-recorded video appearances, this sharply tailored elegant suit hinted that the nation's favourite princess is ready for a return to business as usual.

"And 'business as usual' is exactly what we can expect when it comes to the labels Kate will favour for the season ahead."

The fashion expert predicted what Kate will wear as she gradually returns to performing royal duties.

She suggested: "Kate has always flown the flag for British fashion designers and will remain loyal to the brands she has built trusted relationships with.

"As the colder months approach, the princess will likely gravitate towards her signature tailored Catherine Walker coats and coat dresses for outdoor appearances.

"Her favoured milliner Philip Treacy is the obvious choice for matching hats. For formal evening occasions, Kate's go-to designer for glitzy gowns has always been Jenny Packham and there's nothing to suggest that this will change.

"For unofficial appearances, Kate is expected to continue wearing her favoured high-end high-street brands LK Bennett, Reiss and Boden with a smidge of Zara thrown in for contemporary relatability.

"She'll likely create a 'high-low' look by accessorising with a Mulberry handbag. Always mindful of sending out a responsible message to the public, the Princess of Wales is sure to be noticed for 'outfit repeating' as she returns to public duties."
