The Duchess of Sussex has previously expressed her 'excitement' for Kamala Harris when she selected as Vice President

Meghan Markle "wants to be involved" in this year's US Presidential election and is set to "endorse Kamala Harris" after kickstarting her campaign, it has been claimed.

The Duchess of Sussex, who is known to have a "friendly relationship" with the Vice President, could be soon sharing her support for the Harris campaign ahead of November.

Meghan has previously expressed her support for Harris in 2020, when she admitted she was "excited" to see the Vice President chosen by Joe Biden.

In a filmed conversation with Gloria Steinem, the Duchess said: "I'm so excited to see that kind of representation. For me, being biracial, growing up, whether it was a doll or a person in office, you need to see someone who looks like you in some capacity."

Discussing Harris's election campaign on GB News, royal and showbiz reporter Kinsey Schofield said Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have proved influential in new election polling.

Schofield revealed: "Newsweek took a poll asking how many people would be influenced by a potential endorsement from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and 40 per cent said they would be influenced.

"Meghan wants to be included, this is potentially a very historic election. We really saw Meghan involved, including with Kamala Harris in some voter campaigns in 2020, and I think this is a great way for Meghan Markle to get her foot in the door."

Noting Meghan's "political aspirations" and desire to move her career to politics, Schofield said that this year's election in light of Biden stepping down is "important" to the royal.

Schofield told GB News: "I don't feel like she has tough enough skin, but I do believe that this is important to her.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"We saw her in 2020 work with Stacey Abrams, Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama to do campaigns for women voting, getting women to the polls.

"We also saw Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during the Time 100 event on ABC say Americans 'deserved change' during 2020, which was a very subtle endorsement of Joe Biden at the time."

When asked by host Ellie Costello if a public endorsement of Kamala Harris could kickstart Meghan Markle's political career, Schofield agreed, adding: "This could be her first step in the door.

"I think that Kamala would welcome it because all press is good press at this point. You have to get people excited about you, and sometimes that's throwing everybody a curveball like Meghan Markle."

Turning the discussion to Donald Trump, the official Republican nominee, Schofield highlighted how Meghan has been "outspoken" about him in the past.

Schofield explained: "Meghan has talked about how divisive Donald Trump is in late-night interviews before she married Prince Harry.

"She has been outspoken about disliking Donald Trump, and I think she'd want to be a part of a very potentially historic presidential campaign."
