The Duchess of Sussex skipped an award ceremony just days after Prince Harry's statement claiming the couple was involved in a car chase

Meghan Markle had a personal commitment that stopped her from attending the Gracie Awards, it has been claimed.

The Duchess was honoured for her podcast Archetypes at an award ceremony in Beverly Hills.


However, Meghan and Harry did not attend the event.

This was due to the Duchess of Sussex having a personal commitment according to Hello!.

Meghan scooped the prize for Entertainment Podcast Host at the Gracie Awards presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation in the United States.

She sent a message regarding the award saying: "Thank you to the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation for this prestigious honour."

Meghan continued: "This is a shared success for me and the team behind Archetypes – most of whom are women – and the inspiring guests who joined me each week."

Last week, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex claimed Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and her mother Doria were involved in a "near catastrophic car chase" with paparazzi.

The incident occurred after the Sussexes attended an awards ceremony in New York.

The spokesperson said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near-catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.

"This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers.

Meghan and Harry had attended the 50th anniversary of the Ms Foundation for Women's award ceremony in New York on May 16.

"While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.

"Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all involved."
