It would take a “sincere apology” from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for a royal reconciliation, according to The Duchess’s brother, Thomas Markle Jr.

The Duke of Sussex dropped the biggest hint yet of rekindling relations with his father by clearing his diary and heading to London to be by his side after his shock cancer diagnosis.

Markle Jr spoke to Patrick Christys about his sister’s frosty relationship with their father, and whether there is any chance of a reconciliation.

He told GB News that it would take a public apology for there to be any chance of ties being mended.

“It would take quite a long time”, he said on GB News.

“It would have to be sincere. I mean almost on the level of public apology. It’s very hurtful and it should never have been this way.

“My father has always left the door open for reconciliation and nothing has come out of that.

“It’s just sad overall.”

Thomas Markle Jr’s father has suffered with health issues in recent years leading many to raise alarm bells to the Duchess of Sussex, saying she may not have much time left to mend relations with her father.

“There was no contact after his heart attack a few years ago”, he said.

“That’s just not right because everything should be set aside when it comes to a family emergency.

“That’s the top priority no matter what you have going on or what your differences are and for them to not reach out or do anything, that’s going to be hard to repair.”

It comes after Harry gave the biggest indication yet that he is set to rekindle ties with his father.

His trip will be a solo one, with the Duchess of Sussex staying in the US with the couple’s two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

“The Duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis. He will be travelling to UK to see His Majesty in the coming days,” the Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said.

Harry has a troubled relationship with his father, although they are still in contact, but his long-running rift with the Prince of Wales remains ongoing.

Charles, according to Harry, pleaded with his sons during a tense meeting after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral: “Please, boys. Don’t make my final years a misery.”

Harry and Meghan wanted a half in-half out approach to royal life, but in the end quit as senior working royals amid the Megxit crisis in 2020.
