The royal style difference is used by divorced members of the Royal Family after they lose the title

Meghan Markle made an embarrassing blunder on her own royal title just hours after issuing a statement on the importance of the Sussex name.

In the closing credits of With Love, Meghan cooking show, the royal is listed as "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex" rather than "Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex."

Traditionally, the royal style difference is used by divorced members of the Royal Family after they lose the title.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex despite announcing they would step back from working royals in January 2020.

The now Californian royals move resulted in them losing the ability to be addressed as His or Her Royal Highness, with Harry giving up his military titles.

Prince Harry, who remains fifth-in-line to the British throne, appears briefly in the eight-part show during the final episode.

The dukes mother, Princess Diana was known after her divorce from Charles as Diana, Princess of Wales, because she was no longer "the" Princess of Wales.

Sarah Ferguson has also dropped the article and is referred to as Sarah, Duchess of York following her divorce from Prince Andrew in 1996.

Prince Harry and Meghan have refused to relinquish their Sussex titles, as the duchess indicated the couple has no plans to change the name bestowed upon them by the late Queen Elizabeth on their wedding day in 2018 in a recent interview.

She described the name as "part of our love story".

"It's our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn't recognised how meaningful that would be to me until we had children," Meghan told People.

"I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me."

Meghan revealed she now uses Sussex as her surname to actress Mindy Kaling on the second episode of her new Netflix cooking show.

The duchess promptly corrected her Kaling when she referred to her as "Meghan Markle".

The mother-of-two said: "It's so funny, too, that you keep saying 'Meghan Markle.

"You know I'm Sussex now."
