The Duchess of Sussex announced a new podcast deal with Lemonada Media last week

Meghan Markle will “get more attention” and “have more control” at her new podcast company than with Spotify, according to a royal commentator.

The Duchess of Sussex recently announced a new podcast deal following Meghan and Harry’s split with Spotify.

Kinsey Schofield, a royal commentator and podcast host revealed that the duchess would do better at a startup company like Lemonada rather than the multi-billion-dollar Spotify company.

Meghan and Harry did have a $20million (£15million) deal with Spotify but it collapsed after one series.

The To Di For Daily podcast host, Schofield said: “Lemonada is an audio-first podcasting company so Meghan won't get all the bells and whistles that Spotify offered.

“But with only 50 or so shows on their roster Meghan will likely get way more attention and will have more control.”

Meghan will be in the company of fellow American actresses, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sarah Silverman who also have their own podcasts with the American network.

There is no word on who Meghan will speak with for her new series, but in the past she has hosted celebrities like Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling and Pamela Adlon.

Schofield pointed out that the Lemonada tagline is “Making life suck less, one podcast at a time,” which “aligns” with Meghan’s comments on the red carpet last year where she spoke of what content she likes to work on.

Meghan said: “Things that make people feel– I was going say 'good,' but it's more than that, things that make people feel something, right.

“And feel a sense of community. But we have so many exciting things on the slate. I can't wait until we can announce them, but I'm just really proud of what we're creating.”

Lemonada’s CEO and co-founder Jessica Cordova Kramer mentioned that “authenticity and passion” are key when celebrities want to be podcasters.

Schofield explained that using a smaller startup company may make it easier for the duchess to find an “authentic” voice.

The host said: “With Lemonada [being] such a small startup compared to the million-dollar pressure of Spotify… maybe Meghan can find an authentic voice and rhythm easier.”

Meghan and Harry’s deal with Spotify was axed prematurely after one season of Meghan’s podcast ‘Archetypes’ and one holiday special.

The duchess announced last week: “Our plan to re-release Archetypes so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast is well in the works."
