Lady Louise Windsor is set for a "quasi-official royal role" in the future, a commentator has claimed.

The 20-year-old is the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and currently is a university student based in St Andrews, Scotland.

Despite being the daughter of Prince Edward and granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, Louise and her younger brother James, Earl of Wessex were not raised with princely titles.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh explained in an interview in 2020 that Louise and James, 16, are unlikely to take up official royal duties in the future.

She told The Times: “We try to bring them up with the understanding they are very likely to have to work for a living.

“Hence we made the decision not to use HRH titles.

“They have them and can decide to use them from 18, but I think it’s highly unlikely.”

Louise's cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, are not working royals, however, the sisters hold several patronages in a private capacity.

Gareth Russell, a royal commentator, spoke exclusively to GB News to explain whether Louise will take up patronages in the future, despite her ambitions to embark on a career.

He said: “Certainly Lady Louise has already been at some private royal events where she has met with guests and members of the public.

“So I wouldn't be surprised at all if we see Lady Louise take on some patronages, whether it's in a private or a quasi-official role, we'll have to wait and see.

“But I would be very, very surprised when the time comes if she doesn't take on some of them in a private capacity as well.”

Lady Louise, as well as being a hard-working university student, is a keen carriage driver.

She is often seen partaking in competitions at Sandringham in Norfolk and Windsor.

Louise was taught the sport by her late grandfather, Prince Philip, who was a keen carriage driver himself.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh's daughter was last seen in the public eye for Trooping the Colour in June, where she appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
