Louise has shown a keen interest in joining the military

Lady Louise and James, the Earl of Wessex are "willing to help" Prince William as he prepares for his future role as monarch, according to a royal commentator.

As Prince William prepares for his future responsibilities, experts suggest he will be able to count on support from his younger cousins, particularly Lady Louise.

The 21-year-old, who is currently serving in the University Officers' Training Corps at St Andrews, has shown keen interest in following her late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II's military legacy.

The royal has been spotted participating in army cadet activities during her university studies, demonstrating her commitment to military service.

According to Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, while Edward and Sophie want their children to choose their own paths, Lady Louise and James could assist William in the future.

Bond said: "Sophie has said that she has brought them up to expect that they will have to pay their own way.

"But I'm sure that if cousin William needs a few extra hands to the pump at any stage, Louise and James will be willing to help."

The royal commentator told OK!: "I think there is quite a lot of her grandmother in Lady Louise.

She said: "Elizabeth was champing at the bit to do her military service."

Bond highlighted the late Queen's service in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, where she earned the nickname "Princess Auto Mechanic."

Bond added: "Lady Louise seems to have been keen on the military from an early stage in her undergraduate studies and the pictures show that she has thrown herself into the training exercises."

The expert noted that Lady Louise "is said to have loved every minute of her time as an officer cadet."

A royal insider recently told The Sunday Times that the Waleses and Edinburghs "get on very well."

The source indicated Prince William would be "eager for his aunt and uncle to play a more prominent role in public life."

Lady Louise would become the first female royal to serve since Queen Elizabeth II if she were to join the military after completing university at St Andrew's next year.

The late Queen served as a Junior Commander with the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II, with her commitment later demonstrated by creating the Elizabeth Cross in 2009, honouring families of military personnel killed in service.
