The King returned to public-facing duties earlier this month

King Charles conducted his first investitures since his cancer diagnosis today.

The King looked in good spirits as he was pictured at Windsor Castle carrying out the royal duty.


His Majesty greeted 52 recipients one by one during his first investiture ceremony in five months.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order for his in role in the Coronation last year.

Welby told PA that the King seemed in "very good spirits indeed" and was "looking very well" following the ceremony.

It comes as the King officially handed over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to Prince William on Monday.

King Charles held the role for 31 years but announced in August last year that he would hand it over to the Prince of Wales.

The monarch officially passed the title down to his son William at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop, Hampshire yesterday.

Prince Harry was formerly attached to the regiment during his second tour of Afghanistan until 2014.

Last week, Buckingham Palace announced the engagement in a statement that said: "At the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop, His Majesty The King will officially hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to His Royal Highness The Princes of Wales.

"In August 2023, following His Majesty's Accession, The King was pleased to announce military appointments including that The Prince of Wales would become Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps.

"The role was previously held by His Majesty The King, as Prince of Wales, for 31 years."

On Monday before the ceremony, Prince William posted sentimental pictures of his time in the armed forces.

The Prince of Wales wrote on social media platform X: "Time flies! Looking back at the last two visits to @ArmyAirCorps in 1999 and 2008 ahead of today’s handover at Middle Wallop."

Prince William served as a search and rescue pilot and as an air ambulance pilot during his time in the military.
