Trump has frequently referred to Canada as the '51st state' of the United States

King Charles made a subtle dig at Donald Trump, according to royal fans, as a source claimed the monarch is "determined to play his part."

The King, 76, visited the aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, on Tuesday, whilst wearing Candian military decorations and honours.

Many fans viewed this as a strong message to US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly stated he wants Canada to become the 51st state.

However, as a member of the Commonwealth, King Charles is the head of state in Canada.

A royal fan posted on the social media platform X: "King Charles was inspecting a British ship.

"And YET he did so dressed as King of Canada wearing Canadian military decorations and Canadian honours, including Order of Canada and Canadian Order of Military Merit.

"Charles is sending us and the world a message, a LOUD message."

They added: "The King is never going to say 'F*** off Trump I'm King of Canada leave my realm alone.' Not using words, that is.

"Instead, the King embodies Canadian sovereignty; he IS Canadian sovereignty by simply being.

"He doesn't need to say it. Because he IS the message. HE'S WEARING IT."

Another fan added: "I love this whole speak messages through clothing attire thing that he's doing (and that his mother did)."

Similarly, someone wrote: "King Charles clearly sent a loud message, dressed as King of Canada with military honours and all.

"It’s a bold way of reinforcing his role and symbolising the strong ties between the UK and Canada.

"It’s not just a ceremonial outfit; it’s a statement that goes beyond tradition, showing his commitment to both nations.

"Canadians are taking note, and the world’s watching."

The King recently met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and a source claimed the meeting was “routine but highly significant, given the global context.”

Details of what is discussed at private audiences are not shared by Buckingham Palace.

However, it is understood that the challenges Canada faces with its nearest neighbour, the US, were high on the agenda, as was support for Ukraine.

After the meeting, a Buckingham Palace source claimed: “As a global statesman and a head of state for both the UK and Canada, the King’s role is highly significant, and His Majesty is determined to play his part within appropriate parameters.

"His role by necessity and constitutional obligation is to offer symbolic gestures, rather than express comment.”
