King Charles visited Somerset House today to view the SOIL exhibition, marking the venue's 25th anniversary.

During his visit, His Majesty unveiled a commemorative plaque in Somerset House's newly refurbished Salt Stair.


The exhibition, titled "SOIL: The World at Our Feet," unearths the wonder of soil and its vital role in our planet's future.

It is co-curated by The Land Gardeners, an organisation working with gardeners and farmers to improve the health of our land.

His Majesty toured the interactive exhibition which celebrates the power and potential of soil.

Visitors to the exhibition learn more about the crucial roles that soil plays in our world.

The exhibition features three distinct components: Life Below Ground, Life Above Ground and Hope.

It is co-curated by Henrietta Courtauld and Bridget Elworthy of The Land Gardeners, alongside curator and writer May Rosenthal Sloan and Claire Catterall, Senior Curator at Somerset House.

During the visit, His Majesty met farming families from the Herefordshire Rural Hub who had participated in a Regenerative Agriculture roundtable earlier that day.

The roundtable, led by The Royal Countryside Fund, focused on boosting understanding of soil health.

Discussions also centred on enabling more farmers to move into regenerative farming practices.
