King Charles and Queen Camilla marked their 20th wedding anniversary by spending the morning apart as they continued their state visit to Italy.

The monarch met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at her residence on the outskirts of Rome. It was the first time the King had met Ms Meloni.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla visited the Istituto Comprensivo Alessandro Manzoni, a local state school, for an event promoting the love of reading.

She met schoolchildren participating in a competition to mark the British Council's 80th Anniversary.

The King will then make history as the first British monarch to address both houses of the Italian parliament.

Their day will conclude with a state banquet at the Quininale, featuring speeches and a celebration of UK and Italian culture.

The King spent the morning of his anniversary at Villa Doria Pamphili, where he was welcomed on a red carpet and invited to inspect the guards.

He was greeted by Francesco Piazza, the head of protocol at Palazzo Chigi, who presented Ms Meloni.
