King Charles has issued a birthday message to Princess Anne just weeks after snubbing the Duchess of Sussex.

Princess Anne is celebrating her 74th birthday today with her family.

The King made a public tribute to his younger sister this morning on social media.

The Royal Family's official social media account wrote: "Wishing The Princess Royal a very Happy Birthday today!"

The post was accompanied by three pictures of the Princess Royal.

Two of the pictures show Princess Anne and King Charles together, one as children and the second taken at the monarch's Coronation.

It comes less than two weeks after the Royal Family failed to publicly acknowledge Meghan Markle's birthday.

Meghan Markle celebrated her birthday privately with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, alongside her husband Prince Harry in the US on August 4.

The Duchess of Sussex turned 43 on the same day as the royal couple's first joint TV interview dropped on an American TV channel.

Meghan held a low-key celebration with her family despite the release of her highly anticipated interview with CBS coinciding with the special occasion.

Princess Anne returned to royal duties in July after stepping away for a few weeks to recover from a head injury.

The Princess Royal suffered a concussion and minor head injuries on Sunday June 23 in an incident involving a horse.

The royal spent five days in hospital before being discharged on Friday June 28th.

Following the incident, Buckingham Palace confirmed that on doctor’s advice, Anne's engagements would be cancelled until further notice.

Anne was unable to carry out a scheduled trip to Canada following the injuries.

A statement released from Buckingham Palace on June 24 regarding Anne's injury said: "The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening.

"Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.

"The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the Princess for a speedy recovery."
