Despite stepping away from his role in the monarchy, the Duke of Sussex has continued his work with the sporting competition.

Last month, Prince Harry announced that the Invictus Games will return to the UK in 2027.

The first Invictus Games were held in London in 2014 and the Duke of Sussex hosted an anniversary event to mark the occasion earlier this year at St Paul's Cathedral.

No members of the Royal Family attended the anniversary event in May but the Invictus Games taking place in Birmingham could see UK-based royals attending the competition.

Birmingham was chosen over DC Washington on the final two destination shortlist in a choice between the UK or US as the hosting nation.

The King attended the first Invictus Games in London a decade ago when he held the Prince of Wales title.

A friend of King Charles has stated that he expects the monarch will attend the games in Birmingham.

They told The Times: "I think he would acknowledge it would be a good thing to go to. He would not want to look punitive."

Meghan Markle's attendance at Birmingham games in 2027 looks unlikely unless Harry's level of security is upgraded.

In July, Prince Harry said he would not bring Meghan back to the UK due to feeling uncomfortable with the level of security he is provided when back in the country of his birth.
