King Charles has made a major announcement during his royal tour of Australia as he launches a new charity,

The monarch announced he was launching the King's Foundation Australia during an engagement at Admiralty House in Sydney on Tuesday.

The charity is an expansion of his King's Foundation, first formed in the UK in 1990 when he was Prince of Wales, into Australia.

The King's Foundation Australia will become the custodian of the Hillview Estate in New South Wales.

The former residence of the Governor of NSW, Hillview Estate, is a State heritage-listed property.

The charity's first project is inspired by the Scottish estate Dumfries House, which King Charles bought through the foundation in 2007 and restored.

The charity plans to restore and conserve the property, turning it into a cultural hub for practical education and training programmes in traditional heritage crafts.

When he set up the charity nearly 35 years ago, the King aimed to create a more sustainable future by understanding the balance, order, and relationship between humans and the natural world.

Dominic Richards, Chair of The King's Foundation Australia, said: "His Majesty's vision of a world in harmony with nature is more relevant now than ever.

"As an Australian who personally benefited from The King's Foundation's education programmes 30 years ago, I am excited to see this work extend its transformative approach to communities in Australia.

"Following the model established by His Majesty at Dumfries House, we hope to create a similar positive impact by providing employment and educational opportunities."

The announcement was part of the head of state's six-day tour of Australia, the first time King Charles has visited the country since his Coronation in May last year.

The announcement was made on day three of the head of state's six-day royal tour of Australia, before King Charles and Queen Camilla are due to fly to Samoa to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The royal pair spent most of their time in Australia in Sydney but travelled to Canberra for a day.

Although most of the large crowds that gathered to meet the royals were fans of the royals, some Republicans have called for the removal of the British monarch as their nation's head of state.

The King was interrupted during a speech yesterday to the Australian Parliament by an Aboriginal senator when she shouted anti-colonial slogans, including "You are not my King."
