The message was shared ahead of a reception for regional media at Buckingham Palace this evening, welcoming 400 guests from a wide range of media organisations across the country.
In his address, the monarch highlighted the importance of regional media "in all its forms" particularly "in these uncertain times".
The King referenced a speech he gave in 2002 marking the tercentenary of Britain's first daily national newspaper, where he described the press as being at the forefront of "defining, describing and celebrating the more profound values of our nation".

He stressed that this role has become "more important than ever" in an era when "too much focus is given to that which divides us".
The King emphasised that regional media reporting "helps amplify and reaffirm the rights and responsibilities we all share".
He noted that it "shines a light in dark corners, exposing injustice and wrongdoing".
"Above all, it helps strengthen our communities, in times of joy and at moments of sorrow," His Majesty added.

The monarch acknowledged the challenges facing the industry, stating: "You won't always get it right. A free media is one that will and does make mistakes".
Despite this, he described the media as "a cornerstone of our democracy" at its best.
Charles recognised how "commercial pressures and changing technologies have had a significant impact" on the regional media landscape.
He praised the industry's ability to adapt, noting that "many of you have adapted and innovated, finding ways of sharing your journalism and engaging audiences in new and creative ways".
