The King is 'positive and upbeat about the future' as he gears up for a round-the-world trip for a Commonwealth summit

King Charles is set to begin his "second chapter" of his reign with "renewed vigour" in another piece of positive news for the Royal Family alongside Princess Kate's landmark announcement today.

With the King steeling himself to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the late Queen's death just yesterday, he is understood to have told close aides he must "make up for lost time" and cement his own legacy as monarch moving forward.

As Charles's cancer treatment progresses, sources close to His Majesty have hailed his readiness for the "second chapter" of his reign - set to kick off with his tour to Samoa and Australia for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) at the end of October.

One insider hailed the King's attitude and commitment to raising awareness in the aftermath of his cancer diagnosis at the start of the year.

They said: "Through all the trials and tribulations the King has had to deal with this year, for himself and his family, I've never seen a person so positive and upbeat about the future.

"Even though he has been receiving regular hospital treatment, having to adapt his diary and way of working for a time this year, he never once felt sorry for himself or bemoaned his situation," the source told the Mirror.

They added: "If anything, he wants to use it as a positive to help other people and raise awareness.

"That is at the heart of why he chose to be so candid."

Alongside his consistent positivity, insiders acknowledged how the King has weathered a "testing" time for himself and his family.

Sources drew attention to how the King has taken "comfort and strength" in the public's outpouring of support towards him following his diagnosis - which has mirrored that given to Princess Kate by the people of Britain.

Speaking to GB News, top royal author Robert Hardman joined in in lauding King Charles's "rock solid" reign.

He noted the "difficult" obstacles both the King and Princess of Wales have faced this year, and how he has still "got on with it".

Hardman continued: "He's had the challenges of his health and of course, the challenges of the Princess of Wales - the Royal Family have had a difficult year.

"But nonetheless, when you look back and you think of everything that has happened since, we've had a great deal of national and geopolitical global instability, and yet the monarchy has been rock solid.

"He's now on his third Prime Minister, and we've had crises of one kind or another, but the monarchy has just got on with it."

Harman added: "I think people feel reassured. There's this thousand-year-old institution that obviously has to adapt, but he has shown that duty comes first and that the smooth running of the country is the better for it."
