King Charles was briefly admitted to hospital and has been forced to cancel his royal engagements after suffering "side effects" from his planned cancer treatment, Buckingham Palace has said.
The King, 76, was due to step out tomorrow afternoon in Birmingham to undertake four public engagements, which included a tour of the city's Royal Ballet.
The statement read: "Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital.
"His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were therefore postponed."

The statement continued: "His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House and as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary programme will also be rescheduled.
"His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result."
GB News understands that the Queen did not join the King on his hospital visit and that side effects when receiving treatment for cancer are not unexpected.
The King is said to be "greatly disappointed" to be missing his trip to Birmingham and "offers his deepest apologies to all those who had worked so hard to make the planned visit possible."

The full statement, first revealing the King's cancer back in February, read: "During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted.
"Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.
"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
"Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.
"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.
"He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.
"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

ReutersThe cancer was discovered following treatment for an enlarged prostate and the royal has undergone weekly treatment ever since.
Since announcing his diagnosis, the King has maintained a busy schedule.
In October 2024, the monarch and his wife undertook an international autumn tour to the South Pacific, visiting both Australia and Samoa.
The Princess of Wales also announced she was battling cancer in March 2024 shortly after the King's diagnosis.
