His Majesty continues a weekly cycle of cancer treatment - but still has a packed programme of engagements on his four-day State Visit

The King marked two important milestones yesterday.

Not only did he celebrate 20 years of marriage to Queen Camilla, he became the first British monarch to address a joint session to the Italian parliament.

During the speech, he said: "I reaffirm the deep friendship between the United Kingdom and Italy, and to pledge to do all in my power to strengthen that friendship even further in the time that is granted to me as King."

In a move, which some may interpret as a subtle message to President Trump in the White House, The King chose to voice his pride about a moment of history.

Speaking from the Presidential Podium (only the fourth non-Italian to do so) the King said: "Tomorrow in Ravenna, as King of the United Kingdom and Canada, I will have the great honour of commemorating the eightieth anniversary of the liberation of that province, together with President Mattarella [of Italy], in which British, and Canadian Forces played a key role."

This message comes not long after President Trump publicly suggested that Canada should become the 51st State of the United States of America.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Perhaps this was a way of reminding The President that King Charles is Canada's Head of State.

Meanwhile, His Majesty praised the UK and Italy working together to defend democracy.

This time, however, His Majesty appeared to be referring to Russia's continued invasion of Ukraine.

His Majesty said: "Our younger generations can now see in the news every day on their smartphones and tablets that peace is never to be taken for granted. Britain and Italy stand today untied in defence of the democratic values we share."

"Our countries have both stood by Ukraine in her hour of need - and welcomed many thousands of Ukrainians requiring shelter. Our Armed Forces stand side by side in Nato."

Defence is something both the UK and Italian governments are actively collaborating on, and His Majesty had his first audience with Prime Minister Meloni of Italy on Wednesday.

Their Majesties' visit to Italy comes less than a month before the Royal Navy's Carrier Strike Group, led by Britain's flagship aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, will work with Italian Forces in the Mediterranean.

The King described it as a "powerful symbol of our cooperation".

It appears His Majesty is proving a useful asset for democratic governments to further unite in defiance of tyranny.
