His Majesty is 'much looking forward to all elements of the day', a Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed

King Charles has said he is "delighted" that Princess Kate will be attending Trooping the Colour celebrations tomorrow - in what marks her first public appearance since Christmas Day 2023.

In a statement released on social media on Friday evening, the Princess of Wales issued a rare public update on her health, which talked up her expectations for tomorrow - as well as her hopes for more engagements across the summer.

Kate said: "My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months.

"On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.

"I'm looking forward to attending The King's Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet."

In reaction to the news, the King said he was "delighted" by the news.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "His Majesty is delighted that the Princess is able to attend tomorrow's events, and is much looking forward to all elements of the day."

Prince William also reacted with positivity - with the heir to the throne stressing both his and his wife's commitment to their duties over the weeks and months ahead.

A Palace spokesperson told GB News: "The Prince is pleased to see the Princess starting to engage with the work and projects that are important to her.

"He will continue to focus his time on supporting his wife and children, while continuing to undertake his public duties."

The 42-year-old Princess will make her first official public appearance in 2024 on Saturday's Trooping the Colour, where she will ride in a carriage alongside her three children.

She had been hospitalised at the beginning of this year to undergo major abdominal surgery, which saw the princess remain at the London Clinic for 13 days.

But Kate's attendance at any public events this summer should not be seen as a return to a full schedule of public engagements, sources have stressed.

Kensington Palace will not be providing any further detail today about any future appearances after Trooping the Colour on Saturday.

The festivities will see the Irish Guards troop their colour on Horse Guards Parade in the heart of London in what's set to be a joyous celebration of the King's "official" birthday.

And Princess Kate's attendance will only add to the positivity of the occasion - which is set to draw the attention of the eyes of the country, the Commonwealth and the wider world.
