Lord Ivar Mountbatten, 61, is starring in the third season of the US TV show, hosted by Alan Cumming.

The father-of-three was asked how he was famous during the show, which premiered on January 9.

Lord Ivar said: “I was born with a very nice last name. Mountbatten. It is one of the Royal Family’s surnames.”

Prince Archie, five, was born with the name "Archie Mountbatten-Windsor" in 2019 before he was awarded a princely title in 2022 after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Due to a rule created in 1917, Archie and Lilibet became entitled to use their "Prince" and "Princess" titles after the accession of King Charles III, as they then became the children of the son of the monarch.

Lord Ivar added: “Harry and Meghan’s children are called Mountbatten-Windsor. [King Charles III] is my second cousin.”

The extended member of the Royal Family made headlines in 2018 after marrying a man named James Coyle.

This marked the first same-sex wedding for an extended member of the Royal Family.

Lord Ivar explained in The Traitors: “I was married for 17 years to a woman and I had three kids,” referring to his ex-wife, Penny Mountbatten, whom with he tied the knot in 1994.

The former couple divorced amicably in November 2011.

The King's second cousin continued: “Then we parted company and I married a bloke.

"Because I have a famous last name, it was all over the newspapers.”

Fellow contestants on the US Traitors series were overjoyed about Lord Ivar's presence.

Chrishell Stause, an American actress, said the royals need “a little queerness.”

Meanwhile, Bob the Drag Queen, who won the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, called Lord Ivar “the first gay royal.”
