Prince Harry offered a contrasting view in his book, writing: “The older generation maintained a nearly zero-tolerance prohibition on all physical contact.”
“No hugs, no kisses, no pats”, he added. “Now and then, maybe a light touching of cheeks… on special occasions.
“No matter how much you might love someone, you could never cross that chasm between, say, monarch and child. Or Heir and Spare.”
Harry also details feeling like he was born to be the “spare kidney” for his elder brother, Prince William.
It comes as the Duke of Sussex opted not to join his family for Christmas, instead spending it with Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
In what appeared to be an olive branch to the Royal Family, Harry and Meghan both spoke to the King on his 75th birthday in November.
The conversation reignited hopes that the couple would join the rest of the family in the UK.
Despite Harry and Meghan’s absence, the King had an expanded guest list for Christmas at Sandringham to make way for more family members.
