King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The King has been sent numerous messages of good will as he begins a schedule of regular treatments.


While he has postponed public duties he “remains wholly positive about his treatment”, Buckingham Palace said.

The full statement reads: "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.

"Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure.

"He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

Prince Harry, 39, has announced he will come and see his father in the coming days after being personally notified about the King's health battle by the monarch.

Queen Camilla is also expected to take on a "full programme" of royal duties as her husband undergoes his treatment.

Many notable figures have sent the King good wishes, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Labour Leader Keir Starmer, and Northern Ireland’s First Minister Michelle O’Neill.

The British public has also sent in lots of messages of goodwill as Buckingham Palace announced the King's latest health battle.

The King underwent corrective surgery last month for an enlarged prostate.

Buckingham Palace announced on January 16 that the King would be seeking treatment for an enlarged prostate.

King Charles was admitted to The London Clinic on Friday, January 26 for the surgery, before being discharged the following Monday.
