King Charles's team has issued an apology to visitors planning to see Balmoral Castle during April and May due to ongoing maintenance work.

The historic royal residence will have scaffolding in place as essential repairs are carried out on the exterior of the building.

The notice was shared on the castle's official Instagram account on Tuesday, warning guests about the "challenging" changes they might encounter during their visit.

The maintenance is described as "important" work needed to protect the structure.

The maintenance work involves re-pointing the castle with lime mortar, a technique used to fill gaps between stones or bricks in construction.

This essential process helps protect the historic building from rain and snow damage.

Due to the specific requirements of the lime mortar setting, the work can only be carried out during the spring and summer months.

The castle's elevation of 1,000 feet above sea level creates additional challenges for maintenance work, making the timing of these repairs particularly important.

The full statement shared on Instagram read: "If you are planning to visit Balmoral during April or May, please be aware that the front of the castle is undergoing important maintenance, and scaffolding will be in place.

"The Balmoral Works Department is re-pointing the castle to protect it from rain and snow.

"Due to the nature of lime mortar setting, the castle maintenance can only take place during the Spring and Summer seasons, owing to the temperatures and the challenges of being 1,000 feet above sea level.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Despite the maintenance work, Instagram followers appeared unfazed by the disruption.

Many chose to focus on the beauty of the historic building instead.

"Still so beautiful," commented one follower on the announcement.

Another simply added: "Magnificent castle."
