The King met with the Commonwealth Secretary-General at Buckingham Palace

King Charles was pictured during a private audience at Buckingham Palace after missing the Commonwealth Day Service.

The monarch continued working behind the scenes yesterday while he continues treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

Queen Camilla led the Royal Family at the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey on Monday as the King addressed the nation via a video instead.

But Charles continued the Commonwealth celebrations by meeting with Baroness Scotland of Asthal, the Commonwealth Secretary-General at the palace.

The King has continued to hold private audiences and a council since his cancer diagnosis but has been advised against public engagements by doctors.

Baroness Scotland also joined the Queen, Prince William and other members of the Royal Family at the Commonwealth Day service earlier this week.

The Baroness is head of the Commonwealth Secretariat which “comprises 56 countries working together for development, democracy and peace.”

Although the monarch missed the Commonwealth service he addressed the congregation through a pre-recorded message.

A video of Charles’s speech was shared on YouTube, but the Royal Family’s official social media accounts initially shared the wrong link.

Instead of the royals' official YouTube channel, the speech was linked to the personal YouTube account of the Palace's Head of Digital Engagement, Emma Goodey. Shortly after, the post was removed and replaced with the correct link.

The message reflected the evolution of the Commonwealth since 1949.

In his speech, King Charles said: "The Commonwealth family is strongest when we are connected, through friendship. As I have said before, the Commonwealth is like the wiring of a house, and its people, our energy and our ideas are the current that runs through those wires.

"Together and individually, we are strengthened by sharing perspectives and experiences, and by offering and borrowing the myriad ways we have each tackled the challenges of our time.

"This is true both at the level of nations and, indeed, at the local level. We recognise today that our diversity is our greatest strength."

This year marked the 75th anniversary of the Commonwealth, celebrated with the theme of “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Commonwealth.”

Princess Anne, Prince William and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh also joined the Queen for the special service in London on Monday.

The Royal Family were met outside the ceremony by a group of anti-monarchy protestors.

Following the Commonwealth service at Westminster the Queen stepped out alone to hold a reception where she was greeted by South African dancers and musicians.

The Baroness Scotland of Asthal was also there to greet the Queen as she kissed her on the cheek at the entrance to the house in a black, embroidered gown with a cinched waist.

The Queen arrived at Marlborough House in a long black, A-line dress with detailed, white trim down the front.
