Princess Kate and Prince William’s decision to move to Windsor “made a real difference” during a difficult period for the Royal Family.
The royal couple, alongside their three children, relocated from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022, a decision that they were “delighted” with.
Many believed that the couple who were then styled as the Duke and Duchess, moved out of London for the sake of their children, who attend the nearby Lambroke School.
However, whilst that may have played a part, a royal expert has revealed that a poignant link to Queen Elizabeth was the real reason.
Following the death of Prince Phillip in 2021, William and Kate were keen to live closer to his grandmother, with William knowing that “his time with his grandmother was precious”.
In his latest biography, Catherine, Princess of Wales, royal commentator Robert Jobson said Kate knew that it was important for her husband to be near his grandmother in her final months.
Referring to an aide, Jobson said that William “knew his time with his grandmother was precious and he is delighted they, as a couple, made that decision”.

He added: “Catherine understood that for William, as a future king, it was important for him to be geographically closer to the late Queen in her final months when he was required to support both her and his father. It made a real difference.
“They were in regular contact, seeing each other in person and speaking on the phone several times a week, bringing them even closer.”
William regularly called his grandmother following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, and soon those calls turned to frequent in-person visits.
The couple, along with George, 11, Charlotte, nine, and Louis, six, reside at Adelaide Cottage, which is only about a 30-minute walk or a 10-minute drive from Windsor Castle.

Following the move, the family are also now just a 45-minute drive away from Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, who live in Bucklebury.
The move was smooth as the cottage was refurbished in 2015, meaning that it did not require any further work pre-move-in date.
