The Princess of Wales is also an aunt to her sister Pippa's three children Arthur, Grace and Rose

Princess Catherine has become an auntie to her brother James Middleton's first child.

James, 36, welcomed a "beautiful baby boy" to the Middleton family in a sweet post uploaded to Instagram.

The Berkshire-born entrepreneur, who tied the knot to wife Alizée Thevenet in 2021, said: "He has been in our lives for just a few weeks but they have been the most special of my life getting to know our beautiful baby boy.

"No matter how prepared I thought I was…I was not prepared for the overwhelming emotion of meeting Inigo for the first time and the love for my darling Alizée as we became three.

"We have settled into our new life as parents and I’ve told him all about Ella and that if it wasn’t for her he wouldn’t be here today and that we miss her greatly.

"The dogs have been fantastic at welcoming their little brother into the pack (although Inka needs to know the teddybears are not all for her…).

"We would like to thank the wonderful team at Basingstoke Hospital, from the very first scan to walking out the front door for the first time as three, we couldn’t have felt more supported and looked after throughout so thank you NHS."

The post, which received more than 25,000 likes, showed Inigo's tiny hand "holding" a badge containing an emblem of his late beloved dog Ella.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Another snap showed the newborn in his cot as James' four pooches watched over him.

Inigo is reportedly a name of Spanish and Basque origin and means "fiery".

Website NameBerry added: "Inigo, almost unknown in the US, is an intriguing choice, with its strong beat, creative and evocative sound and associations with the great early British architect and stage designer Inigo Jones.

"The sixteenth-seventeenth century Jones shared his name with his father, a London clockmaker, who received it when Spanish names for boys were fashionable in England, especially among devout Roman Catholics."

James and Alizee were yesterday spotted walking around autumnal West London with the father-on-one pushing a pram.

The announcement means Kate, 41, becomes an aunt to her brother's child.

She already became an aunt when her sister Pippa Middleton, 40, welcomed son Arthur in 2018.

Pippa and her racing-driver-turned-hedge-fund manager husband James Matthews also celebrated the births of Grace in 2021 and Rose in 2022.

But the addition of Inigo adds to a ever-increasing list of cousins, with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also playing a pivotal role.
