The Prince and Princess of Wales would “fit happily” into Royal Lodge amid an ongoing row between its current tenant, Prince Andrew, and King Charles, according to royal expert Michael Cole.
The monarch has been trying to relocate Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, from the Grade II-listed Windsor mansion to the smaller Frogmore Cottage.
The Duke of York is thought to be digging his heels in, citing his 75-year lease.
Speaking on GB News, the BBC’s former royal correspondent told Martin Daubney that Kate and William would be perfect candidates to take on the lease.

“The King has been trying to persuade his younger brother to move out of Royal Lodge into Frogmore Cottage”, he said.
“Prince Andrew is sticking fast. He is pointing out that he has a long lease and it’s a repairing lease. He’s responsible for the repairs, of which many are being made.

“It’s a bit of a standoff at the moment. Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales would fit into Royal Lodge very happily with their three children.
“They are making do in Adelaide Cottage, which is not a particularly grand building, in Windsor Park.
“Adelaide Cottage may have echoes of sunny Australia, but it is not a nice place in January or February.”
An insider has told Woman’s Day magazine that two other royals have stepped in as potential “caretakers” of the building.

“They’ve completely thrown a spanner into an already difficult situation, which is why Charles has had to come clean on his somewhat unpopular plan to house Camilla.
“Needless to say, all hell’s broken loose and if it’s not sorted out soon, there is a push for William to step in and take back the Lodge, just to settle what’s becoming a very uncomfortable fraternal war.”
Andrew, who divorced Sarah Ferguson in 1996, has lived in the property since 2004 under a 75-year lease he bought after the death of the Queen Mother in 2002.
Charles is said to be keen on moving his brother into Frogmore Cottage, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used to live.
But it is understood that the duke is reluctant to cave to his older brother’s demands and will instead seek to stay where he is.
