The Prince and Princess of Wales opted for very different means of travel

Princess Kate decided to take the royal helicopter to travel to Somerset for Monday’s outing, despite only living in Windsor which is a two-hour drive away.

However, Prince William took a commercial flight to New York City to announce the finalists for his Earthshot Prize Awards.

The Prince of Wales travelled on a commercial flight to New York City, before completing a series of engagements in the afternoon.

In comparison, Kate arrived at the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton via helicopter, which surprised many royal fans.

The group Republic, who strongly oppose the Royal Family, tweeted: “She [Kate] could have gone by car. About two hours from Windsor.

“But instead flies by helicopter for an entirely pointless visit.”

One royal fan commented: “More arrogant environmental hypocrisy from the House of Windsor.

“It’s not as if she’s got to get back in time for the school run or cook their supper!”

Kate was recently granted the new title of Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm.

This title was bestowed upon the Princess by King Charles after he became the monarch this time last year.

She performed her engagement at the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, which is one of the Royal Navy's two principal air stations and one of the busiest military airfields in the UK.

Today, William is due to speak at the Earthshot Summit – a trip he was meant to do last year, but had to be postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

This is the Prince’s second trip to the USA since he visited Boston last December with the Princess of Wales.

However, William has not visited New York City in particular since December 2014, which Kate also joined.

This year’s trip coincides with the opening of the United Nations’ 78th General Assembly and Climate Week.

This is a partnership between the UN, the NYC government, and the Climate Group to highlight the importance of shining a light on climate-related issues.
