King Charles will lead the nation in marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day this May, joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales at a series of commemorative events, according to new claims.

The monarch, 76, will head a special Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey, accompanied by senior members of the Royal Family.

Queen Camilla and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are also expected to attend the service, alongside the Prime Minister and hundreds of veterans and their families, according to the Mirror.

The celebrations will honour those who served in World War Two, with the King determined to pay tribute to our war heroes despite his ongoing cancer treatment.

A spectacular flypast featuring aircraft from the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Red Arrows will mark the historic occasion.

Military and civilian services will join a parade from Westminster Abbey to Whitehall, passing the famous balcony where Winston Churchill addressed crowds on VE Day in 1945.

The parade will culminate at Horse Guards Parade, where a special music and entertainment concert will occur.

The flypast will commence as the parade enters Horse Guards Parade, creating a dramatic tribute to the veterans.

The commemorations will bring together organisations and associations representing those who fought in World War Two in Europe.

The Princess of Wales, 43, will reportedly participate in the celebrations as part of her gradual return to public duties following cancer treatment.

Kate recently undertook her first royal "away day" since 2023, visiting a children's hospice and sock manufacturer in Wales.

During her visit to Tŷ Hafan hospice, she engaged with children in musical activities and spoke with families about their challenging experiences.

The princess demonstrated her commitment to royal duties by participating in a "stay and play" event, where Kensington Palace had donated musical instruments.

Her attendance at the VE Day commemorations alongside King Charles and Prince William underscores the united front of the Royal Family at this historic occasion.

Street parties will take place across the country during the bank holiday weekend from May 3 to May 5.

Iconic London landmarks including St Paul's Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament and Trafalgar Square will be illuminated with V-shaped beams of light each evening, recreating the celebrations of 1945.

A royal source indicated that a personal tribute from King Charles to WWII heroes and subsequent generations of service personnel will be released.

The commemorations follow the tradition of previous anniversaries, including the 75th anniversary in 2020 when the late Queen Elizabeth II delivered a poignant speech from Windsor Castle.
