Princess Kate and Prince William appear to have snubbed Prince Edward as they did not post a birthday message to the Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Edward celebrated his 61st on Monday and received a public birthday message from King Charles and Queen Camilla via the official Royal Family social media account.

However, the Prince and Princess of Wales did not send a birthday message to Edward, despite the couple posting on social media on Monday.

Kate and William attended the Commonwealth Day Service on Monday alongside the King, Queen and Princess Anne.

They issued a statement stressing the importance of "building for the future" following their public appearance at Westminster Abbey.

The message said: "Today is Commonwealth Day! A day to celebrate the shared values, diversity, and unity of the 56 nations that make up the Commonwealth.

"This year’s theme, ‘Together We Thrive’, is a reminder of the power of fostering strong, connected communities, and empowering one another to build a better future."

Prince William and Princess Kate sent a birthday message to Prince Harry in September to mark his 40th birthday.

They also sent a public message to Prince Edward's daughter Lady Louise in November to mark her 21st birthday.

Prince Edward was granted the title of Duke of Edinburgh by King Charles in March 2023.

This touching gesture honoured their late father, Prince Philip.

Buckingham Palace had previously announced Edward would eventually succeed his father as Duke of Edinburgh, but only after the death of both Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II.

The title is not hereditary and will not pass to Edward's son, James, Earl of Wessex.

Upon Edward's death, the title will revert to the Crown, as it did following Prince Philip's passing.

This follows royal tradition for certain titles that return to the monarch's gift.
