The Prince and Princess of Wales use social media to appeal to the younger generation

Princess Kate and Prince William made a major change hours before stepping out in London for Remembrance weekend.

The Prince and Princess of Wales changed their profile pictures on their official social media accounts.

The royals refreshed their X and Instagram display pictures to pay tribute ahead of attending Remembrance events.

The future King and Queen have adopted a personal approach to social media to modernise the monarchy and appeal to a younger demographic.

They will likely keep the Remembrance Day tribute for a few weeks as a sign of respect before changing back to their original theme.

This personal approach has been essential to Kate maintaining appearances and showing support for the charitable causes she aligns herself with during her break from royal duties.

The Princess of Wales temporarily stepped back from royal commitments after she announced she was diagnosed with cancer in March this year.

In September, the mother of two posted an emotional video on the pair's official social media announcing she had completed her chemotherapy treatment.

She signed the message with her personal “C” signature, a strategy she and William have adopted to add a personal connection with their followers.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said Kate writing her social media posts is a relatively new communication approach and an excellent step for the monarchy.

"This is such an effective and modern way of using her influence and staying in touch, even when she is not making personal appearances.

"Official statements from the Palace now seem quite stuffy and extremely formal by comparison.

She added: "Social media can be a source of awful abuse, but Catherine and William are showing that it can be used to spread goodwill and kindness."

The Princess of Wales made a milestone back-to-back appearance for Remembrance Weekend, the first consecutive public commitments since she was diagnosed with cancer.
