The Prince and Princess of Wales's last joint public appearance outside of England came in 2023

Prince William and Princess Kate visited Pontypridd in south Wales today, ahead of St. David's Day celebrations on 1st March.

The royal couple spent time with members of the local community, hearing about life in the Welsh town.

Their visit included a tour of Pontypridd Market, where they met local business owners.

It is the first public appearance the couple have made together outside of England since Kate was diagnosed with cancer in 2024.

The princess announced she had completed her preventative chemotherapy treatment in September 2024 and confirmed earlier this year that she was in remission.

The Prince and Princess also learned about the impact of severe flooding that hit the town in December 2024, when Storms Bert and Darragh affected several Welsh communities.

Pontypridd Market has been a community cornerstone since 1805, housing a diverse range of businesses.

These include butchers, green grocers, cafés, toy stores, book shops and textile companies.

The royal couple were given a short tour of the food hall during their visit.

The historic market serves as a hub for local commerce and community gathering in the Welsh town.

Their Royal Highnesses took time to engage with various stallholders and learn about their businesses.

A highlight of their market tour was a visit to The Welsh Cake Shop, which has been serving traditional Welsh cakes for over 25 years.

The Prince and Princess met the current owner to learn about the business.

They then tried their hand at preparing and cooking Welsh cakes themselves.

The shop is also renowned for its Bara Brith, a traditional Welsh fruit bread.

Both Welsh cakes and Bara Brith are delivered to customers across the UK from this Pontypridd institution.

Following their Welsh cake experience, the royal couple moved to Fountain Café within the market.

There they joined local business owners for a conversation about life in Pontypridd Market.

Discussions focused on the market's vital role within the local community.

The Prince and Princess also heard about the December floods that severely impacted the area.

Business owners shared their experiences of how Storms Bert and Darragh affected their livelihoods.

Their Royal Highnesses listened to accounts of how the community responded to these weather challenges.
