Prince William's share is significantly smaller than his brothers, due wealth he is accumulating from the Duchy of Cornwall estate

Princess Kate and Prince William have been left with a “bitter taste in their mouths” as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to land a huge sum of money in just weeks time, according to an insider.

The Duke of Sussex will inherit a whopping £7million from his great-grandmother when he turns 40 next month.

The money comes from a trust fund that the Queen Mother set up for her grandchildren - she put the majority of her estimated £70million wealth into it and Harry’s share is around 10 per cent.

The Duke of Sussex’s share is larger than his brother’s, as the Prince of Wales is already benefiting financially from the Duchy of Cornwall estate.

The relationship between Harry and his family has been strained ever since he moved to the US with his wife Meghan Markle in January 2020.

Since his move to Montecito, things have turned frosty between Harry and the firm, thanks in part to a series of bombshell claims that Harry made in his memoir Spare, which was released in January 2023.

Harry wrote that his brother was critical of his wife, whom he relocated to the United States in 2020, and that William allegedly called her “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.

Now, an insider has said that the Prince and Princess of Wales’ distrust of Harry has left them upset in light of his upcoming inheritance.

A source told Closer: “William and Kate don't trust Harry or Meghan one bit, so the idea that Harry's now cashing in on his great-Granny's inheritance leaves a very bitter taste in their mouths.”

William believes the inheritance shows that Harry “is essentially being rewarded after the terrible treatment he's shown them all” and that it “is just wrong on so many levels”, according to the source.

Royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes that Harry’s great grandmother would be dismayed to learn of the feud, given her particularly close bond with Harry, who he referred to as “Gan Gan”.

“I’m afraid the Queen Mother would have been mightily disappointed to see history repeating itself as Harry fell in love with a divorced American woman and then left royal life and went to live abroad… almost in exile, like her brother in law King Edward VIII, who abdicated for the love of Wallis Simpson.”

The royal correspondent said that she believes that the Queen Mother would have been angry at Harry and Meghan for the things they have said about the Firm.

Discussing the money itself, Bond said: “For most of us, an inheritance of several million pounds would be utterly life changing.... for Harry and Meghan, it will be a small bonus compared to their commercial earnings.

“Nevertheless, I’m sure it will be greatly appreciated by Harry who, I’m sure, has nothing but fond memories of his great grandmother… or Gan Gan as he called her.”
