Kate and Prince William have broken cover for the first time since Prince Harry's bombshell Coronation decision.

The Prince and Princess of Wales carried out a royal engagement in Birmingham today.

It is the couple's first appearance since the Easter Holidays but also since Prince Harry announced his Coronation decision.

The Duke of Sussex delayed confirming whether he would attend the Coronation until last week.

On April 12, Harry announced he would go to the ceremony on his own, as his wife Meghan Markle and children Archie and Lilibet remain in California.

The Sussexes' decision was confirmed in a statement by Buckingham Palace.

The Palace said: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.

“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Prince William was said to be "baffled" by Prince Harry's approach to their father's Coronation.

The Prince of Wales felt that his brother was deliberately stringing out announcing his attendance according to a source.

It comes as a royal author claims the Sussexes' relationship with the monarchy has deteriorated so much that Kate found participating in a walkabout with Meghan and Harry "one of the hardest things she has had to do".

Kate, Prince William, Prince Harry and Meghan spoke with members of the public together during the walkabout.

In his new book titled Our King Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed, Jobson claims sources told him that while the royals looked united on the day, it was not the case.

The royal author said that according to sources, the image of unity was an “illusion”.

He wrote: "Catherine later admitted to a senior royal that, such was the ill feeling between the two couples, the joint walkabout was one of the hardest things she’d ever had to do."
