The Prince and Princess of Wales visited Pontypridd on Wednesday

Princess Kate and Prince William were spotted visiting a private home as a resident made a statement.

The Prince and Princess of Wales visited Pontypridd on Wednesday to meet with residents affected by Storm Bert flooding.

The royal couple toured the Welsh town, which was hit by widespread flooding in late November when the River Taff burst its banks.

The royal couple made a private visit to the home of butcher Kevin Kidner, 61, who runs his business from the nearby market.

Kidner's property was among those severely damaged when floodwaters reached three feet deep.

"They asked plenty of questions and were obviously concerned," Kidner told the Mail after the visit.

Residents on his street had desperately tried to protect their homes by throwing buckets of water out of their properties.

"I think if they can push other people to help us, it would be great," he added.

Locals gathered to catch a glimpse of the royal couple, with many cheering as they left Kidner's property.

A young girl was filmed excitedly waving at William and Kate as they departed.

The Prince and Princess took time to greet well-wishers and pose for photographs.

One resident who captured footage of the visit said: "There they are saying hello to everybody, taking pictures, I'm sure they were deeply moved by what they found inside that poor person's home."

A recent fundraiser collected nearly £30,000 for affected Pontypridd residents.

During their engagement, William and Kate also visited Mill Street in Pontypridd, which was submerged when Storm Bert struck.

This marked the second time in four years the street had been badly affected by extreme weather.

The royal couple spoke with cafe owner Enrico Orsi and barber Josh Downes about the recurring flooding issues.

At the time of the flooding, Orsi had likened the scene to the Titanic as people scrambled to save their homes.

Both business owners expressed concerns about the impact of climate change and repeated flooding.
