Leading members of the Royal Family joined together at St George’s Chapel in Windsor for a major event

Prince William and Princess Kate joined King Charles for a historic royal event but Prince Andrew was kept away from proceedings.

The Prince and Princess of Wales joined the 74-year-old monarch and Queen Camilla at Windsor’s St George’s Chapel for the Order of the Garter procession.

Charles and Camilla wore traditional robes and plumed hats during the ceremony.

William, 40, made his way down to the Lower Ward alongside other members of the Royal Family.

Kate, 41, who was wearing an Alessandra Rich dress and Philip Treacy hat, stood with the Duchess of Edinburgh and Duchess of Gloucester.

The Order of the Garter was founded by King Edward III.

The ceremony, which was inspired by the tales of King Arthur, today includes the monarch, senior relatives and a maximum of 24 knights.

Prince Andrew was not permitted to join the procession but attended the lunch due to his role as Royal Knight Companion.

The Duke of York, 63, is a non-working royal and was not allowed to join the procession last year.

Andrew is “very depressed” about having to take a backward step from the Firm, an expert has claimed.

Ingrid Seward, Editor-in-Chief of Majesty Magazine, told GB News: “Remember, he’s never known anything else except military and royal, and he's not adaptable, he’s not popular, and therefore he has not been able to find anything else in his life so far as we know.

“So he really is in a gilded cage, unable really to do anything.”

“He’s never apologised to those women and I think he just doesn’t understand what he’s done.

“I think he’s completely lost and I’m sure he’s probably very very depressed, especially seeing all his family riding at the Trooping on Saturday when only a few years before he was doing the same thing.”

Despite Andrew's absence, Kate and Sophie were both spotted beaming with delight when they spotted their respective husbands.

The Princess of Wales also wore drop pearl earrings first owned by Princess Diana.
