Princess Catherine has been hailed for her "clever" move following her latest public appearance, alongside daughter Princess Charlotte.

The Princess of Wales received a standing ovation as she attended the Wimbledon men's singles final on Sunday - her latest public outing since Trooping the Colour in June.

Reacting to the appearance from both Princess Kate and Princess Charlotte, former BBC Royal Correspondent Michael Cole said the royal "looked terrific" as she watched the game alongside her daughter.

Cole told GBN America: "When she walked into the centre court royal box at Wimbledon, 15,000 people got to their feet and applauded her. I think she was slightly taken by surprise - and it was very sweet."

As Princess Charlotte made her appearance at Wimbledon, Prince William and Prince George also made their latest public appearance as they joined England fans in Berlin for the Euro final against Spain.

However, six year old Prince Louis did not make an appearance this weekend, which left royal fans speculating as to why the youngest member of the Wales family was left out.

When asked by host Nana Akua about Prince Louis's absence from the major sporting events, Cole noted Princess Kate's "clever" way to squash any speculation.

Cole explained: "Everybody was asking, what's happened to the youngest child, Louis? Is he being deprived? And so the Princess Kate was very clever.

He added: "Charlotte had her name on the shirt and her age, nine, and Louis had six. And so he was not entirely shut out from things."

Hailing praise on Prince William for his trip to Berlin for the England final against Spain, Cole claimed it was "great to see" the two royals "getting really into the game".

Cole told Nana: "It was great to see Prince William and George really getting into the game. This was not a duty for them, this was something they love.

"Prince William has always been a good footballer. He played football at Eton and he loves the game."

Discussing the Prince of Wales's love of football and the teams he supports, Cole revealed: "He is president of the Football Association, but he supports an unfashionable club in Britain. He supports Aston Villa in Birmingham.

"He's not a glory hunter, he doesn't support the very successful clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and so on.

"He goes for Aston Villa, which is one of the founding members of the Football League in this country, going way back into the 19th century.

"He's very sincere about that, he's a great fan. Whereas his brother Harry supports Arsenal, which is a much more successful London club. And of course, he does take Prince George, his eldest son, to Aston Villa games as well."
