A talk show host and supporter of Meghan Markle has "apologised personally" to Princess Kate, after being involved in spreading conspiracy theories about the royal.

The Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis to the world last week, following weeks of online speculation about her whereabouts.

In January, Kate was hospitalised for 13 days following planned abdominal surgery for an unknown condition.

She later returned to Adelaide Cottage for her recuperation, which sparked online conspiracies about her absence from public life.

This culminated in Kate recording a video from her garden to reveal her cancer diagnosis and that she is undergoing a "course of preventative chemotherapy".

Sheryl Underwood, a US talk show host on The Talk, explained why she is apologising to Princess Kate following the cancer announcement.

During Tuesday's episode, Underwood said: “I felt ashamed…I contributed to the conversation.

"And I want to apologise to Princess Kate personally on my behalf.

"I want her to forgive me, because I am ashamed of myself and I’m a grown woman, and I should have had a little bit more discretion.”

Underwood received lots of praise for apologising to the Princess of Wales.

One fan wrote on Instagram: "Your heartfelt apology speaks volumes of the kind of woman you are.

"People these days don’t want to admit they’re incorrect."

Another said: "This is a great model of how to take accountability, humbly apologise and ask for forgiveness. More of this in the world."

A third commented: "Kudos to Sheryl for taking responsibility. We never know what someone might be going through."

Underwood was a firm defender of the Duchess of Sussex in the past, especially after her 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.

During the interview, Meghan accused an unnamed member of the Royal Family of raising "concern" over Prince Archie's skin colour.

After Piers Morgan dramatically quit Good Morning Britain the following day, the then-host of The Talk, Sharon Osbourne, defended him on social media. This led to Underwood and Osbourne having a tense discussion on air.

Underwood said: "It was not the exact words of racism, it's the implications and reaction to it. To not want to address that she is a black woman and to try to dismiss it or to make it seem less than what it is, that's what makes it racist."

Prince William denied that the Royal Family was racist at the time, saying: "We are very much not a racist family."

Buckingham Palace later released a statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, saying that "recollections may vary" when it came to allegations made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
