Princess Kate attended her first music festival last weekend in a surprise appearance from the royal.

The Princess of Wales was spotted at the Houghton Festival in Norfolk.

Kate and her friends opted to dine at the Turntable & Napkin restaurant during the festival, where a four-course meal costs £60.

Following their meal, it is reported that the Princess of Wales and her party left a £700 tip for the restaurant staff.

"[Catherine] was in high spirits, ordering spicy margaritas, eating affogato, and speaking affably with the other members of her party.

"Her companions apparently carted in a huge, balthazar-sized bottle of AIX rosé and, together with Kate, left the festival restaurant staff a £700 tip" reports the London Evening Standard.

A balthazar is a 12-litre bottle and it would cost about £500 from a wine shop.

The Princess was dining with the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley at their home at the time the festival was taking place on their 1,000-acre estate.

A source told the Mail: "After dinner, one of the guests suggested that Catherine go to the festival.

"Catherine was nervous about the idea, but, after much discussion with her protection officers, she went with lots of security. William wasn't there."

Last month, Princess Kate was branded a "disappointment" by a former Vogue Editor.

The Princess of Wales was criticised by Suzy Menkes over her approach towards jewellery.

The prominent critic said: "The Princess of Wales is a bit of a disappointment about jewellery.

"She gives the impression that she only puts it on when she absolutely has to.

"I imagine her looking beautiful in one of those gowns behind the scenes and then pulling a face as if to say, 'Do I have to wear this?'

"She doesn’t give any sense of adoring jewellery and being pleased to put it on."

Menkes added on her podcast Creative Conversations: "She doesn’t seem to have Camilla’s joy at wearing jewellery."

She continued: "We now have a new Queen, so presumably she has a first opportunity to look at the jewels.

"We can imagine that the next in line to the throne’s wife would be something that was very special, so will we see Catherine wearing jewellery that is more dramatic, that is more personal to her?

"I don’t know. I can’t help feeling with things of beauty, you either love it or you don’t."
