The Princess of Wales missed out on debuting a significant new honour from King Charles, which marks her important role within the monarchy.

Kate, 42, has been awarded the Royal Family Order of King Charles, a prestigious distinction given to female members of the Royal Family in recognition of their service.

The honour was evident as other senior royals, including Princess Anne and the Duchess of Edinburgh, were seen wearing their Royal Family Orders at the recent Qatar State Banquet.

While the Princess of Wales was absent from the evening banquet, she had participated in daytime events during the two-day state visit.

The special insignia is traditionally worn during formal royal occasions, including State Banquets and Diplomatic Receptions.

The Royal Family Order features a diamond-encased portrait of King Charles set on a distinctive pale blue silk bow.

The colour of the silk bow holds significance, with King Charles's order using pale blue, while Queen Elizabeth II's version featured a yellow bow.

Senior female royals often display multiple orders simultaneously, as demonstrated by Princess Anne and the Duchess of Edinburgh who wore both King Charles's and Queen Elizabeth II's portrait miniatures at the recent banquet.

William also holds other significant honours, including Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter and Knight of the Order of the Thistle, the highest honour in Scotland.
